Stepping away from our instruments allows us to develop important skills without the pressure of technical concerns. Dance embodies music. It enhances our understanding of music and music making, reinforces our sense of rhythm and heightens kinesthetic connections, allowing for greater physical ease in playing. We will touch on South African Step Dance, Baroque Dance and Argentine Tango. Participants will both play and dance. Bring your instruments! Comfortable shoes recommended.

From the Boston Artists Ensemble: “On March 13 and 15 we bring you two Gallic piano trios of inspiration and refinement. Saint-Saëns’ first Piano Trio was inspired by a holiday in the Pyrenees. Ravel’s Trio, dedicated to his counterpoint and theory teacher, opens with a Basque dance zoriko rhythm and uses the extreme ranges of its instruments to create a rich texture of sound.”

The Kalliroscope Gallery is in the sanctuary of the Old Baptist Church in Groton, Massachusetts. The congregation moved out in 1970 to build a larger church and Paul Matisse bought the empty church and moved into it in 1982. The interior was extensively renovated to create a gallery for his work, living space and studio.
